K-ARTS  and KAIST to Host

‘AI Film Camp’ for Future Leaders in Arts and Science

  -  Thirty-six freshmen from K-ARTS and KAIST to undergo intensive training in short film and AI content production.

  -  Curriculum spans from traditional filmmaking (directing/cinematography) to advanced Generative AI tools like Midjourney and Runway.

 - The camp will take place at the K-ARTS Seokgwan-dong Campus from February 4 (Wed) to February 11 (Wed), 2026.

The Korea National University of Arts (K-ARTS, President Pyun Jang-wan) and KAIST (President Lee Kwang-hyung) will co-host the "2026 K-ARTS X KAIST Freshman AI Film Camp" for eight days, starting February 4, 2026, at the K-ARTS Seokgwan-dong Campus.

Now in its fifth year, this program is rooted in the 2022 Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two institutions to expand cooperation in arts and technology. It is designed to provide incoming students—the future leaders of arts and sciences—with the opportunity to explore the fusion of culture and cutting-edge technology.

■ Hands-on Integration of Creative Vision and High-Tech Tools

Thirty-six selected freshmen will participate in a series of lectures and workshops centered on short film and AI content creation. The curriculum is designed to enhance "media literacy" and creative thinking by merging artistic sensibilities with engineering precision.

A key highlight of the camp is the intensive practical training in industry-leading AI tools, including:

  ● Visuals & Video: Midjourney, Runway, Kling

  ● Audio & Music: ElevenLabs, Suno

Participants will collaborate in interdisciplinary teams to bring their ideas to life, culminating in a final screening and evaluation session on the last day of the camp.

■ A Proven Platform for Interdisciplinary Exchange

The camp has become a hallmark of the K-ARTS and KAIST partnership, boasting a 100% recommendation rate in previous participant surveys. By breaking down the silos between arts and science majors, the program allows students to simultaneously experience artistic inquiry and technical implementation.

Professor Seung-moo Lee, Director of the K-ARTS Art & Technology (AT) Lab and organizer of the camp, stated: "Arts and science share a common denominator: creativity. The meeting of these two fields serves as a catalyst for new value creation. We hope this camp becomes a forum where future artists and scientists inspire one another and grow together."

■ AT Lab: Leading the Global AI Storytelling Frontier

K-ARTS AT Lab is a premier creative research institute dedicated to the convergence of technology, art, and industry. Its works, such as Scarecrow and Rain Fruits, have been recognized at major festivals including Sundance, Cannes, and Tribeca.

The Lab continues to prove its global creative prowess with recent accolades, including:

  ● Fly To You (Selection: SXSW)

  ● Scarecrow: Rekindle (Winner: Raindance Film Festival)

  ● 8 PM and the Cat (Selection: Venice International Film Festival Immersive Competition)

Furthermore, AT Lab is leading R&D and global industrialization in AI storytelling through the "Global Culture Technology (CT) Professional Human Resources Development Project" (supported by the Ministry of Culture and KOCCA) and a collaborative "AI Drama Production Project" with Studio Dragon.
