The Art & Technology Lab (AT Lab) at the Korea National University of Arts (KARTS, President Jang-Wan Pyun) participated in the 'Nobel Prize Dialogue Seoul 2026' held at the COEX Auditorium, showcasing its flagship advanced content achievements, including the AI artwork Diamond Dust.
Co-hosted by Nobel Prize Outreach (NPO)—a subsidiary of the Nobel Foundation—and the Korean Academy of Science and Technology (KAST), this event serves as a special overseas edition of the 'Nobel Week Dialogue,' the eve of the official Nobel Prize ceremony. Held under the theme "The Future of Science Transformed by AI," this year's event drew Nobel laureates, prominent domestic and international scholars, and an audience of over 1,200 attendees, attracting widespread global attention through a live worldwide broadcast.
On the day of the event, the AT Lab hosted a special session titled "Exploring the Future of Visual Storytelling." The session kicked off with a dialogue between Soong-Moo Lee, Director of AT Lab, and Adam Smith, Chief Scientific Officer of the Nobel Foundation. The atmosphere heightened when Professor David MacMillan of Princeton University—the 2021 Nobel Laureate in Chemistry—joined the stage as a surprise guest.

Professor MacMillan participated in a live demonstration of AT Lab's AI-driven interactive artwork Diamond Dust (directed by Nuri Jeon). After engaging in a real-time conversation with the AI character "Kardi," he praised the experience, stating, "It was surprising and dynamic to experience an emotional connection while conversing with an AI bot."

During the panel discussion that followed, Director Soong-Moo Lee shared insights into the collaborative creative process between humans and AI. He highlighted a profound philosophy, noting, "Even in an era where AI can deliver meaningful narratives, the control and core directional vision of creation must remain in the hands of the artist."
As AT Lab's presentation was the only session during the event to address art and content, it received high acclaim for enriching the dialogue as a premier example of successful convergence between science, technology, and art.
By showcasing the value of convergent arts at a global gathering of leading intellects, AT Lab is expected to solidify its leadership position in the field of AI storytelling.
Moving forward, AT Lab will continue to explore the multifaceted intersections of cutting-edge technology and art, consistently demonstrating new possibilities for AI-driven convergent arts on the global stage.
