KARTS AT Lab’s Interactive Immersive Performance SCARECROW VRC Featured at UNESCO Headquarters Exhibition 'Korea: Cubically Imagined'

The Art & Technology Lab (AT Lab) of the Center for Convergent Arts at Korea National University of Arts (KARTS, President Bong-ryul Kim) will showcase its immersive performance SCARECROW VRC at the "Korea: Cubically Imagined" exhibition, held at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris from July 6 to 16.

Co-hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Secretariat of the UNESCO Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions, this exhibition marks the UN’s International Year of Creative Economy for Sustainable Development. It aims to share Korea’s vision for a post-pandemic future with audiences worldwide.

Originally created as an advanced research project by KARTS AT Lab, Scarecrow was invited to major international showcases, including the Sundance Film Festival and Kaohsiung Film Festival in 2020. Reimagined as SCARECROW VRC—Korea’s first metaverse interactive performance—the piece won Best Immersive Game at the Raindance Film Festival and the Digital Storytelling Innovation Award from Columbia University’s Digital Storytelling Lab (DSL), earning acclaim as a pioneering work tailored for the un-tact era.

Insights from the Creator

"This exhibition provides a wonderful opportunity for people around the world to experience a central theme of our times through immersive media on the metaverse: human connection and exchange. We will continue to present pioneering works that lead global trends in advanced convergent content."

— Seung-Mu Lee, Director of KARTS AT Lab & Professor at the School of Film, TV & Multimedia
